Having been led by The Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and to make him the Lord of our lives in all matters of conduct and living, we, the members of Hope Community Church of Newburyport, do now solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ, and we therefore engage by the aid of the Holy Spirit that:
We will walk together in Christian love, exercising over each other a Christian concern, participating in each other's joys, and revealing tender sympathy in times of distress and sorrow. We will pray daily for conversion of the world and for each other.
We will be truly Christian in speech, ever slow to take offense and always ready for reconciliation, and, mindful of the teaching of our Savior, to seek it without delay.
We will assemble together and will uphold the pastor's ministry, the public worship of god and the ordinances of baptism and communion, giving to Christ pre-eminence in all our loyalties.
We will contribute cheerfully and regularly to the church, of our time, our talent, and our money, as faithful servants of The Lord, being mindful of our Lord's command, to extend the gospel to the whole human family.
We will endeavor to rear the children with which we are blessed and to care for others for whom we may be responsible, according to the teachings of God's Holy Word.
We will, by a pure and holy example, endeavor to win our kindred and acquaintances to The Saviour. We will seek to develop Christian character through Bible reading, prayer, and personal and family devotion.
We will seek divine aid to help us maintain a Christian attitude in all business and social relations, refraining from those habits and customs that are detrimental to the highest Christian interests of ourselves and all others.
We will be interested in church and community efforts to effect moral improvement, and to relieve distress among poor and needy.
We will unite, as soon as possible, with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant when we remove ourselves from the watch care of this church.
